About Our Staff

Lynn Northup | Anita Gomez | Nicole Carper | Part-Time Staff

Anita Gomez & Lynn NorthupAnita Gomez & Lynn NorthupIn Spring 2006, we reorganized the shelter staff to ensure that the animals will have the very best of care and that the public will be served as efficiently as possible.

Several part-time positions were combined to form a new full-time position.  We now have three full-time positions:   Manager Lynn Northup, Assistant Manager Anita Gomez and Kennel Manager Nicole Carper.

Lynn Northup ~ Shelter Manager

Our Shelter Manager, Lynn Northup, came to us in August 2000. Lynn has a lot of shelter experience; she served as shelter manager both in North Carolina and out-of-state. Because of her dedication to and deep love for animals, Lynn resigned from her job as a Registered Nurse at Watauga Hospital in order to accept the position as Shelter Manager.

Anita Gomez ~ Assistant Manager

Anita Gomez, our new Assistant Manager, comes to us from a 6-year stint with Watauga County Animal Control.  She is joined our staff at the Shelter in April 2006.  You may remember that during the Katrina Disaster she and Lynn spent a week rescuing animals in the New Orleans area.  They do have some stories to tell.

Anita's medical background includes E.M.T. training and working as a veterinary technician while residing in Roxboro, N.C.  She also was an O.R. Technician while living in Smithfield. After coming to the Boone area, Anita founded the group called the “Horse Helpers” to take in horses that have been mistreated or can no longer be taken care of by their current owners.   Attempts are made to find good homes for these animals after they have been rehabilitated.  Anita originally kept these horses at her home but now Ree Rankin houses them at a farm on Pigeon Roost Road.

Anita has been married to her husband Al since 1989, and they have 3 children: Carolyn King, James King, and Jessie Gomez.  They moved to the area in order to be closer to her mother.  Anita currently has 6 dogs and all were rescued.

Anita brings new ideas, different strengths and her own unique personality to the Shelter. The diversity of our staff should serve us well.   Please come by and make Anita feel welcome.
