Volunteer
Opportunities

of volunteers who want to walk dogs and hang out in the cat room.
A volunteer who spends time with an animal provides countless benefits
to the animal; most importantly, it helps to keep them happy. We
appreciate everyone who volunteers at our shelter.
We often have groups of people come and visit our shelter to walk
dogs and play with the cats in our cat room. If you have a group
that would like to visit, please call us in advance so we will know
to expect you. Due to the size of our shelter, it is difficult for
us to accommodate groups larger than ten people.
We also need a volunteer base who are willing to foster very young puppies and
kittens until they are ready for adoption who we can call upon in times of need. Think you're interested? Read More.
There are countless volunteer opportunities with the Watauga Humane
Society. Many things that we need help with require no direct
contact with animals. Some of our less-glamorous ~ but necessary
~ volunteer jobs include:
- preparing crates for our weekly spay/neuter clinic trips (afternoons
Saturday-Wednesday)
- bleaching crates (Friday afternoons)
- poop scooping and
picking up trash in the yard (afternoons
Monday-Saturday)
- washing and folding laundry (afternoons
Monday-Saturday)
- washing dishes (mornings Monday-Saturday)
- cleaning out
the vacuum (afternoons Monday-Saturday)
- scrubbing windows
and walls in the office building (afternoons
Monday-Saturday)
- sorting Thrift Store donations
- maintenance repairs
If you'd like to help out with any of these chores, please come
by the Watauga Humane Society and let us know you'd like to volunteer!
Remember to wear your oldest clothes and shoes whenever you volunteer
at the shelter!
Volunteers under age 18 must have their parent or guardian
sign a consent form before volunteering at the shelter.
We also need volunteers to help with our fundraisers (Dog Jog,
Rummage Sale, Fur Ball, etc.) and other events. If you would like
to volunteer for this type of activity, please call our volunteer
coordinator, Bencita Moore (828.297.2774) and let her know you
want to help!
