Mychal's Fund
"Mychal's Fund" is a medical fund for injured animals. The fund is named after Mychal, the cat who was deliberately burned during the holiday season of 2001 by a man angry at Mychal's owner. Mychal's owner could not afford treatment so she turned him in to Watauga Humane Society.
Mychal endured serious burns on the back half of his body that required surgery and debridement. Mychal was anesthetized 17 times during the course of his treatment. He lost two-thirds of his tail and the fronts of his back toes. Mychal was badly burned over a large part of his back right flank and another place on his stomach.

Where his hair follicles were destroyed, he has no hair, only scar tissue. Where his hair follicles were damaged, his hair grew back white. This left an unusual design on this solid black cat.
The Watauga Humane Society paid Mychal's veterinary care expenses, had him neutered, and found him a new home. It took Mychal a very long time to trust humans again, but now he comes up to his new owner for attention, and will lie next to and even on top of his owner, but he still doesn't like to be picked up or held. After everything he went through, it is remarkable that he wants anything to do with people!
Mychal was featured as the cover cat for the Watauga Humane Society 2004 calendar.
