A Word About the Importance of Spay/Neuter
If your cat is not spayed or neutered, PLEASE take advantage of this clinic.  The pet population can dramatically impacted by just two animals.  Consider this: One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years - 10 MILLION in 10 years!

Every hour, 3,500 cats are born in the United States!  Every 1.5 seconds, a shelter animal is killed.  The only way to stop overpopulation is to spay/neuter your pets.

Watauga County is no different than anywhere else:  we have a huge pet overpopulation problem.  Don't Believe It?  Call Watauga County Animal Control and ask Officers Dave and Anita about how many animals are put down every week.  Ask them how many feral cats they see each month.  Ask them about the percentage of animals that are adopted...

... Then ask the Animal Control Officers what the source of the overpopulation problem is.  They will tell you, it's because most people in Watauga county don't have their pets spayed or neutered!!!  There just aren't enough homes for them all!

Animals who have been spayed or neutered enjoy better health, reduced risks of cancer (yes, pets can get cancer too!) and better behavior (neutered males don't mark their territory).

Still making excuses?  Check out the Ten Worst Excuses for Not Spaying/Neutering Your Pet.  Also see Do Your Feline a Favor for more statistics about shelter animals.

There is NO EXCUSE for not spaying or neutering your pet.  Please take advantage of the Watauga Humane Society Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic for cats!

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed for fund-raising events such as the Rummage Sale and the Pet Show. We sometimes need dog walkers (we're located next to Greenway Trail, which is ideal for walking dogs). We also need help with everyday chores like laundry, washing dishes, poop-scooping, etc. We need people to help with our newsletter and with our Capital Campaign. We need volunteers to help out at the thrift shop, too.
We always need volunteers!!!
