Join us for the Tenth Annual Fur Ball slated for August 25 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center in Boone. The "Yappy Hour," reception, and "Kibbles n Bits," dinner, will be followed by "Purring and Barking," featuring music and dancing.
The Live and Silent Auction features unique lots while "Art in the Bark" highlights original art for bidders. Proceeds help fund the Watauga Humane Society Animal Shelter, Dog Park , spay and neuter services, microchip clinics and educational activities.
The lead sponsor for the event is Westglow Resort & Spa. Additional sponsors are US Buildings, "The Howell Howlers," High Country Bank, Robert Charles Salon, Dr. & Mrs. Jeffrey Lineberry, and Dr. & Mrs. Thomas Zuber of Boone.
Tickets are $90 per person or $900 for a table for ten individuals. Tickets are available by calling Jan Watson at 828-264-1743 or emailing her at janwatson@charter.net. Seating is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance.
North Carolina Congressman Cullie Tarleton will entertain the crowd as the "Guest Auctioneer" during the Live Auction. Local businessman and noted photographer Park Terrell of Boone will serve as "Master of Ceremonies." Music will be provided by "Laditude," according to co-chairs Jan Watson and Lisa Van Arnam.
Among the Live Auction lots are two special tickets to the Lowe's Motor Speedway, "Westgrowl," a uniquely designed dog house which replicates Westglow created by noted architect Steven Carter Price, AIA, a Dyson ("the Animal") vacuum cleaner and a vacation condo rental in Destin Beach, Fla.
Included among the many forms of art featured in "Art In the Bark" is an original signed work by internationally known artist Patrick McDonnell, creator of the "Mutts" comic strip. Also in the Silent Auction are gift certificates for gourmet dining, spa treatments, memberships to Deer Valley Racquet Club, home accessories and even "Mystery" packages. Winning bids may be paid by cash, check or credit card.
For the first time, the Watauga Humane Society is holding a photo contest to determine the "King and Queen" of the Fur Ball. Deadline for entries is August 10.
